how to remove written off in CIBIL report

how to remove written off in CIBIL report

You have already made the payment, but the overdue amount is still not getting removed. Apart from this, I want to tell you that your report may also show fake loans, or it may show “Suit Filed.” In some cases, it may show “Settled,” which means you have completed the payment, but the status is still showing as settled. So, if you are facing issues like Written Off, Suit Filed, Settled, or fake loans showing in your report, then by using this process, you can get help in removing Written Off in CIBIL, Overdue, Suit Filed, etc.

If you have the same problem, then understand the complete process carefully so that you can solve your Written Off or Overdue issue.

Why Does This Problem Occur?

First, let us understand the reason. Whenever you take a loan from any NBFC or bank and complete the full payment and get the loan closed, the bank or NBFC has to report to CIBIL that the payment has been received and the loan has been closed.

But in your case, what may have happened is that you made the payment a little late. Due to the late payment, the bank or NBFC first marked the account as Written Off or Overdue. Even after receiving your payment later, they did not change the status. Because of this, your report is showing Written Off, Overdue, Settled, or Suit Filed, whereas it should show “CLOSED.”

Filing a Dispute with CIBIL

Here, we need to file a dispute. Filing a dispute means a proper file will be prepared in which the entire matter will be written, and that file will be sent to CIBIL. CIBIL will share that file with the bank or NBFC and will confirm from them whether the payment has been received or not. If the bank or NBFC confirms that the payment has been received, then your status will be updated, and Written Off in CIBIL or Overdue will be removed and changed to “CLOSED.”

Now, in this process, our file must be very proper. I will tell you how to prepare the file, where to send it, and what to do next if the dispute still does not get resolved.

How to Prepare a Dispute File?

  1. Title Page.
The first thing in the dispute file is the title page. On the title page, it should be clearly written what your problem is—Written Off, Overdue, Fake Loan, Settled, or Suit Filed—so that the person reading it can understand from the title itself what the file is about.
  2. Case Explanation.
In this section, you have to write what type of loan it was, who the lender was, when you took the loan, when you made the payment. Why Written Off or Overdue is still showing even after payment. This is the heart of the file, and it must be properly explained in 2–3 pages.
  3. Annexure (Loan Details).
Annexure means loan details—lender name, loan type, payment date, full or partial payment. what status is currently showing in the report, and what status you want.
  4. Credit Score Improvement Request Form.
This is not an official form; I have created it myself. It contains your name, email, address, PAN number, and phone number. A request is made to CIBIL to update both your account status and credit score after paymet.
  5. Required Documents.
The required documents include NOC, NDC, or Account Statement. These documents prove that you have completed all payments and that the balance is zero. I always suggest that after the last payment, you must take NOC, NDC, and the account statement.
  6. Attach Your CIBIL Report.
After this, you need to attach your CIBIL report—the complete PDF report, not just screenshots. I always rely on the report downloaded from cibil.com. Along with this, you also need to attach an Acknowledgement, which proves that your file has reached CIBIL.

Now, convert all these documents into one single PDF and arrange them in the correct order.

How to Raise the Dispute?

Now, there are two ways to send the dispute—online and offline.

  1. Online Method
In the online method, you can email the complete PDF file to CIBIL. The email subject and email content should be proper. At the end, you should write your name and phone number.
  2. Offline Method
In the offline method, you can take a printout of the complete file. Send it to the CIBIL office through speed post or registered post. You will get the CIBIL office address on cibil.com.

After sending the file, keep checking your CIBIL score every 10 days. Checking your score on cibil.com does not reduce your score. Also, keep checking your email, because CIBIL may ask you for more information.

What If the Problem Is Not Solved?

File a complaint with RBI :
Now, you need to wait for 30 days. If the status is still not updated even after 30 days, then you can file a complaint with RBI. But before filing a complaint with RBI, it is mandatory to first raise a dispute with CIBIL and wait for 30 days.

You can file the complaint by visiting the RBI website and logging in through OTP.

So, this is the complete process that helps in solving problems related to Written Off in CIBIL, Overdue, Settled, Suit Filed, and Fake Loan.
